How did the IMSC come about?

In 2009 a group of mystery shoppers were talking on about having their own conference in Las Vegas. Although this had been discussed many times before, this time was different due to a handful of shoppers that were determined to make it happen.

In October of 2009, the first Independent Mystery Shoppers’ Conference took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 130 mystery shoppers and 50 company representatives from across the country attended. The conference brought the mystery shoppers, schedulers, editors and even the clients together.

Less than a year later, a second conference took place and attendance was even higher.

The IMSC is committed to mystery shoppers. It is our mission to improve the industry through education. The education comes from a variety of sources that are well versed on their particular subject. Shoppers are taught how to perform the mystery shopping jobs in a manner to please the client and mystery shopping company needs. Shoppers learn how to organize, communicate, carry out their tasks and most importantly they get to meet the people they have been working with for years in person as well as meet one another.

The shoppers have never had their own voice prior to the IMSC, and we will continue to diligently work to provide them with the resources they need to be successful.

The IMSC has had eight successful conferences since its inception in 2009.

  1. Yvette Stringfield says:

I did not attend the first conference but did the conference at the Suncoast in Vegas and the Orlando and the Tropicana in Vegas in 11 and went to Vegas in 12. Looking at trying to go to Atlanta this year in May. So much to see and do . Plenty of networking and meeting all the companies. I get more work when I attend because we put names and faces together .

    1. Yvette, we were glad to see you each and every time! We are so glad that, like so many others, you found value in meeting face-to-face with the company representatives!

  2. Doug Corteal says:

I have attended a few of the conferences but never knew very many of the attendees. I would suggest providing a list of the Shopping companies representatives name of those in attendance including those that are not exhibiting so we can make contact with them.

    1. That is a great idea Doug. The names of the company representatives who are speaking are posted in the program. All of the company representatives’ name badges also indicate with which company they are attending, making it easy to recognize company representatives at a quick glance.

  3. Dawn Celis says:

I am very new at this but would love to attend the next conference, can you please send me some information where, when? Thanks Dawn

    1. Hi Dawn, we would love to have you attend a conference! The next one will be in Atlanta at the end of May. You can find some information here: The next two in 2013 will be Reno in September ( and Las Vegas in November ( If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to email us at

I am so glad this was started. It really filled the void left when the MSPA decided to forgo having Gold Shoppers’ Conferences. I had wanted to go to the first one but I made it to the 2nd one. I was able to network with people, some of whom I still keep in touch with. It is nice to meet shoppers who really take their job seriously. I hope to make the Atlanta one, since it’s in my hometown. I hope that IMSC continues. It certainly has grown and has become the place to be for mystery shoppers and mystery shopping companies.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words! We hope to see you in Atlanta!

  5. Paul says:

    Northeast location in the future?

    1. We are looking at our options for 2015. 2013 is Atlanta, Reno and Las Vegas. In 2014, we will be in Las Vegas, possibly Reno, and we are organizing our 5-year anniversary cruise. If you have some suggestions for a Northeast location, we would love to hear them!
